Cosmos Keller, Sr.

Cosmos Keller Sr. and his brother Louis Keller emigrated from Gambsheim France to Elsah in the late 1850's. The brothers worked in Elsah as coopers and also operated the local hotel.

Frederica Dorathea Behrens was known as Dorathea Behrens. It was the custom of German people to have several names and to be known by their middle name. Dorathea married Cosmos Keller Sr. in 1856 in Jersey County, probably at the Catholic Church at Beltrees. Dorathea and Cosmos had three children - Cosmos, Louis, and Emma. Louis died as a young child. The family lived in Elsah.
